NLP Fusion Founder Orlando Zucchetto on why NLP is a powerful tool for changing the way we think about difficult tasks.
Why vs How…
NLP is the study “the structure of successful behaviour”. How is it that some people can do certain things exceptionally well, while others are terrified at the thought of them?
Public speaking is an excellent example. For years it mystified me why people would be scared to get up and speak in front of others. From a young age I was constantly told I “talk too much”, “never shut up” and “could talk the back leg off a donkey”. I still have not figured out exactly how one would “talk the back leg off a donkey” or where the heck that saying came from, but there was one very interesting side-effect from all of these comments…I can speak confidently in public!
When I first encountered NLP I came across the often touted phrase “it’s not about why someone can or cannot do something, it is how they are approaching the situation in mind and body that enables them to be successful.” This simple phrase changed my life.
A different question for a change
When someone makes the statement “I just can’t get up and speak to a group” they are often asked “why not?”. I prefer to ask “How do you know?”. The ensuing conversation usually points to an experience earlier in life that has become the benchmark. “What I was capable of = what I will always be capable of” is the mindset these people have.

That is simply not true. We are all capable of things we were not born capable of. Reading, writing and speaking, to name a few. Human beings are learning machines: we learn our whole lives from the experiences we have and the information that comes in our five senses. What we have learned determines what we can, or can’t (yet) do.
User manual for the brain
NLP is the closest thing to a “user manual for the brain” I have ever encountered. It allows us to tap into a way of thinking, and recognise how we are limiting ourselves with our attitudes and behaviours.
NLP Fusion and some of the courses we offer empower more people to go beyond their limits, and discover their true potential.
