The word “hypnosis”, elicits a wide variety of reactions, sometimes quite extreme!
In 1841 James Braid first adopted the term hypnotism. Since then, people around the world have been entertained, excited, sceptical and even downright afraid of “The Hypnosis”, but what is this mysteriously appearing phenomena and how can it actually be useful?
A Quick History Of Hypnotherapy
As far back as history has been recorded, human beings have been altering their states of consciousness using different methods including song, dance, drumming, storytelling, plant based and chemical substances for a variety of reasons.
The earliest storytellers, shaman, leaders, entertainers and educators enthralled their audiences, sometimes for hours at a time, with a purpose in mind.
Modern Day Hypnotic Methods
In our modern society, appealing to customers through methods of advertising that have ‘subliminal messages’ or influence people to buy and value brands, products and services is very common… could it be defined hypnotic?
And if there are habits or behaviours we want to modify, but they seem to be ‘just’ happening, outside of our awareness. Does it make sense to visit someone that can assist us to make changes outside of awareness, like a hypnotherapist?
Maybe it is time to find out a little more about what this ‘thing’ called hypnosis is and how it can be useful for you!
