Time… we all get the same amount every day. We can lose track of it, use it wisely… or not. We can be on time, in time, behind the times, timely and even run out of time.
We have clocks in many forms that enable us to agree on what time it is. So, we can make plans, meet others, schedule activities, our lives… yet, sometimes it drags, others it flies by…
Presuppositions of NLP
The Polish-American independent scholar Alfred Korzybski who developed the field of General Semantics and is often quoted “The map is not the territory”.
This is one of the presuppositions of NLP, the map is not the territory. How we represent the world inside our minds, is not what is on the outside. Our internal representation of reality is a map, a model, our representation from our experiences.
Structuring Time
How we think structurally about time, that is our capability to recall past events and separate them from things we imagine happening in the future. Requires us to be able to know difference, some form of distinction between the two.
Becoming aware of how you make those distinctions, opens the door to being able to change the way you represent memories and future aspirations. Moving a past event further away in mind to create space from it. Or bringing a future aspiration closer to increase motivation. These are just some of the things you can do using NLP Timelines!
